Ambubachi mela is celebrated as a religious festival in Kamakhya Temple located in Guwahati, Assam. This fair is organized during the month of June in Kamakhya, approx 15 km from Guwahati. Kamakhya Temple situated on the top of Nilanchal Hills is one of the famous Shaktipeeths.
Thousands of sages, saints, tantrikas, devotees and tourists come here in this fair. This fair lasts for four days,In which the doors of the temple remain closed for the first three days.
It is believed that the goddess undergoes her menstrual cycle during three days, during which the Brahmaputra river turns red and on the last day, a crowd of devotees gather to have darshan of the goddess. During this period, many religious rituals, chanting, worship, Bhandara and Tantric rituals are performed there. And due to this, special energy starts circulating in the temple premises.
