According to mythological texts, when Ravana was carrying the Shivling from Mount Kailash to Lanka, Ravana felt very suspicious, then he asked a cowherd named Baiju to hold the Shivaling and went to perform the Laghushanka for several hours, due to which there A pond was formed which is present in Deoghar today.

Here Baiju kept the Shivaling on the ground and went away.When Ravana returned, he could not lift the Shivling despite many efforts. Then he also understood this act of God and he touched the angry Shivling with his thumb and went away.

After which it started being worshiped in the name of Baba Baidyanath, this Shivaling is also called Kamna Ling.


According to another story, the heart of Mata Satti had fallen here due to which it is also called Shakti Peeth and Hridaya Peeth. Coming to this city brings blessings of both Shiva and Shakti. Deoghar is such a temple in the world where both Shiva and Shakti sit together.
