Jagannath Puri Rath yatra 2024: Rath Yatra 2024 is the biggest festival celebrated in Odisha, India. The city of Puri, situated on the ocean coast of Orissa, witnesses a wonderful and grand religious event every year, which is known as Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra. This place is also known as Purushottam Puri, Shankha Kshetra, Shrikshetra.

The grand celebration of faith that is seen during this Rath Yatra festival is rare anywhere else. The virtue of participating in the Rath Yatra of Jagannath ji, the incarnation of Lord Shri Krishna, is considered equal to a hundred.

This time lakhs of devotees and tourists are going to be a part of this holy journey. Jagannath Rath Yatra is celebrated in Puri on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. This time this journey is starting from July 7th.


Importance of Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2024:

Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra marks the annual visit of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra. The journey starts from Jagannath Temple in Puri and goes to Gundicha Temple, which is located at a distance of about 3 kilometres. The purpose of this yatra is to come out of the sanctum sanctorum of Lord Jagannath and give darshan to the devotees.

This year Rath Yatra will start from 7th July 2024. Many religious rituals, cultural programs and grand processions will be organized during this yatra. Many new events and passenger facilities are being started to make the journey of 2024 special.

The history of Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra is very ancient and there are many mythological stories related to it. It is said that Lord Jagannath along with his brother and sister visits his aunt’s house in Gundicha temple. This journey has been going on for centuries. According to Skanda Purana, the first Rath Yatra of Jagannath ji took place in Satyuga, the second part of the first Manvantar.

There is also news that 3D mapping technology will be used on the entire route of the Rath Yatra and at specially identified points. By Air :—Biju Patnaik Airport is the nearest airport to Puri city. The distance between the city and the airport is 60 km. From outside this airport you will get a taxi or bus to go to the temple

By rail:  —Puri Railway Station is the nearest railway station here. Puri is connected by direct express trains to cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata etc. After coming to Puri Railway Station, you can easily reach the temple.


By the road:  Puri city is well connected by road. Buses to Puri are available from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in Orissa at an interval of 10-15 minutes. Direct bus facility is available from Visakhapatnam, Delhi and Kolkata.
